Princess Diana, Wonder Woman's real identity, grew up steeped in the ancient Greek culture and society. As Wonder Woman, she's been through culture shock going from her distant home to the outside world. While she has adjusted somewhat to the differences, much about this world still surprises her. As the story opens, Diana is confused when a young woman comes to her and offers herself in the ancient ways of supplication. Diana isn't sure what to make of Danielle Wellys, but she accepts the woman as a supplicant and makes "Hiketeia," binding herself to protect Danielle. However, Danielle has problems that not even Wonder Woman may be able to guard her from. Danielle's been seeking vengeance since her sister was murdered, and her mission has involved everyone from the ancient Greek Furies to Batman. As Batman, Wonder Woman and the Furies clash over her fate, Danielle watches and makes a decision that will affect them all. Rucka just began a stint as the regular writer of the monthly Wonder Woman comic, but this is his first real exploration of the character. His treatment of the myths and lore associated with Wonder Woman/Princess Diana is impressive. Jones's beautiful pencils and attention to detail capture the characters' heart and emotion, as well as the soul of the cities and other background objects. This stand-alone story is a great introduction to the character and background of Wonder Woman, a seminal superhero who usually runs a distant third to Batman and Superman in DC's pantheon.

The Definitive Wonder Woman Story
By The Nothingness
This story is a tragedy. It is not about two super heroes fighting each other. It is about love among sisters. It is about the fine line between vengeance and justice. It is about ancient law versus modern law. It is about two friends who are both trying to do what they each think is right. This story brings out the greatest strengths and greatest weaknesses of two of the greatest heroes in any universe. Neither of them will ever give up. You get to see Wonder Woman's kindness and her great capacity for loyalty. And you get to see how stubborn and obsessive Batman can be. Batman might seem a bit unreasonable in this story, but I would like to remind you that Batman's "no killing" rule is one of the most interesting things about his character - and the rule applies to everyone, not just to Batman himself. The only part of this story that does not make sense is when Batman thinks that he can defeat Wonder Woman with kicks and punches. This story deals with some very serious issues. It really makes you think about the way that women are treated in our society. It is depressing, but it is a must-read for any fan of Wonder Woman. You could even call it the definitive Wonder Woman story. It is a great example of what Wonder Woman stands for. The writing is brilliant. The art is beautiful. I highly recommend it. If you want to read it, do not hesitate.

Great story.

Only reason for 4 stars is because it had some sticker glue on the cover - Zippo lighter fluid worked perfect to remove the glue. Great story.

Don't Be Fooled By The Cover
By Morgan Larchuk
Although the cover makes The Hiketeia look like just another wish-fulfillment story of superheroes duking it out, the story is actually much more nuanced than that. Multiple perspectives are presented in a no-win scenario and both Batman and Wonder Woman are portrayed well. This story is a great introduction to Wonder Woman's character, highlighting her time as an ambassador as well as the true strength of her character which is her love and compassion for others (something Rucka did well in his run on Wonder Woman). There's not much action, but the story is still compelling. I'd say it's a must-read for Wonder Woman fans.
