Very enlightening description of atomic physics from one of the physicists who was back in the thick of it when these things were first coming to light. So what you get is a description of quantum mechanics free from more recent ideologies and assumptions. He even discusses the great philosopher Bergson and how his work has implications for quantum physics. I think that is telling, considering most physicists today consider philosophy dead and impotent to contribute anything of value to present day physics.

Physics and Microphysics is a must read for all creative people.

This classic book by Lous De Broglie is now out of print but it should be a must read for any creative thinker in science and physics. The most important element about the book is that De Broglie outlines how he analyzed some basic concepts of quantum physics and how he came to his conclusions, which revolutionized physics for the whole world. His main thought which always sticks in my mind is that he had to thinks of something totally new to explain the phenomenon of quanta. "I had to think of something crazy, something I never thought of before" always sticks in my mind. He explained light as behaving both as a particle and a wave, something which was never done before. Make no mistake, he worked at his concept for a long time and pursued it thoroughly. All people confronted with new events and new information attempting to make sense of their observations should read this book.
